CJP founder Dipke vows to continue protest, alleges bid to intimidate activists

New Delhi, Oct 18 (UNI) Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke, on Sunday, alleged that recent arrests and detentions were aimed at intimidating those associated with the group's activities, asserting that they would continue their campaign and decide their next steps after associates Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka return.
Dipke said the group would regroup and formulate its future strategy once the two associates were back, adding that he hoped both would be released during the day.
“We will sit together, reassess the situation and decide how to proceed once Saurav and Ashu return. The illegal arrests and detentions we have witnessed over the past few days indicate an attempt to intimidate us. But we will not be cowed down or retreat. This is a long battle, and we are prepared for it,” Dipke told media in the national capital.
He said he was on his way to meet advocate Vrinda Grover to discuss legal issues relating to the matter.
Dipke was brought before the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) court at Mandir Marg Police Station on Saturday, in connection with fresh preventive proceedings under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
According to Delhi Police, the action was initiated over an alleged breach of a peace bond submitted by Dipke on October 10. He was subsequently released after furnishing a fresh bond, police said.
The proceedings came days after Dipke was detained at Delhi airport on October 10 and asked to furnish an undertaking to maintain peace for a year. He was again taken into custody on Friday while leaving the residence of Anish Gawande, spokesperson for the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar), where he had been staying.
Dipke was reportedly on his way to join a proposed national flag demonstration at Central Park in Connaught Place when the police action took place. Police cited prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the BNSS, along with concerns over traffic movement, public safety and possible disruption to commercial activity.
The legality of the action has been questioned by CJP's head of legal affairs, Ratna Singh, who maintained that appealing to people to participate in a peaceful demonstration involving the national flag could not, in itself, be treated as a criminal act.
“The SEM Court should release Abhijeet Dipke, as his arrest is unlawful. He merely urged people to unfurl the Tiranga, how can that by itself be a crime?” Singh said in a post on X.
