CM Yogi highlights women’s safety, dignity and economic self-reliance on Maha Ashtami

Lucknow, Oct 18 (UNI) On the occasion of Maha Ashtami during Sharadiya Navratri on Sunday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath offered prayers to Maa Mahagauri and highlighted his government's initiatives for women's safety, nutrition, education and economic empowerment, invoking the goddess's blessings for peace, prosperity and the well-being of all.
Offering prayers to Maa Mahagauri, the Chief Minister invoked her blessings for peace, prosperity and the well-being of all.
In a post on X, he said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state's double-engine government has made women active partners in Uttar Pradesh's progress by expanding opportunities for their safety, dignity and economic self-reliance.
Highlighting the changes introduced after 2017, Yogi said the system for providing nutrition to children had earlier been crippled by the influence of the mafia. After the formation of the BJP government in the state, the responsibility for producing and distributing take-home rations was entrusted to women belonging to self-help groups, ensuring greater transparency and creating opportunities for their economic empowerment.
Significantly, this initiative has strengthened nutrition services across the state and made the fight against malnutrition more effective.
The Chief Minister also said the monthly honorarium of Anganwadi workers, who play a key role in children's nutrition and early education, has been increased from Rs 3,000 to Rs 12,000. They were also being provided health insurance benefits, he added.
Yogi said more than four lakh women across 31 districts were associated with dairy producer companies, including Balinee, Samarthya, Kashi, Baba Gorakhnath and Srijani. By turning dairy production into a source of income and entrepreneurship, these women were contributing to the rural economy, he said.
The BC Sakhi initiative in every gram panchayat has also played an important role in empowering women and expanding financial inclusion in rural areas.
More than 1.20 crore women in the state are npursuing economic self-reliance through self-help groups, the Chief Minister said. Under the Lakhpati Didi initiative, women are converting their skills and hard work into regular incomes, helping improve the economic well-being of their families.
Yogi said the blessings of Maa Mahagauri symbolised the aspirations of women across the state for safety, dignity, empowerment and prosperity.
