Mayawati assigns key role to Akash Anand, rules out Ashok Siddharth’s return to BSP

Lucknow, Oct18 (UNI) Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati has entrusted party national coordinator Akash Anand with a key responsibility in the party as he will be holding a series of public meetings across Uttar Pradesh in the coming weeks to strengthen the party, while categorically ruling out the return of former party leader Ashok Siddharth.
Mayawati said Anand has been actively discharging his responsibilities with greater maturity and understanding and appealed to party workers and members of the Bahujan community to ensure the success of his upcoming programmes.
Anand will address public meetings in Bulandshahr on October 28, Saharanpur on November 2, Ayodhya on November 20, Agra on November 22 and Kanpur Nagar on November 29, she said.
He is also scheduled to attend a seminar organised by the BSP in Punjab on Constitution Day, November 26, as the chief guest. On December 6, he will address a seminar and public meeting in Haridwar district of Uttarakhand to mark the death anniversary of B R Ambedkar, observed as Mahaparinirvan Diwas.
Mayawati said that following the political retirement of Ashok Siddharth, Anand has been carrying out his responsibilities as the BSP’s national coordinator with renewed diligence.
She stressed that organisational responsibilities and the interests of the party and the Bahujan movement must take precedence over personal and family relationships.
Clarifying the party’s position on Siddharth’s possible return, Mayawati said he and Anand had been held responsible for certain recent unpleasant incidents and were removed from the party and advised to retire from politics.
She categorically ruled out Siddharth’s readmission, saying he would not be taken back into the BSP under any circumstances.
Mayawati also cautioned party workers against rumours, alleging that some self-serving individuals were attempting to mislead people. She urged them to remain vigilant and focus on strengthening the organisation and ensuring the success of Anand’s programmes.
In the same statement, Mayawati said Anand’s younger brother, Ishaan Anand, who has completed his legal studies in London, would work as an active party worker at the BSP’s central office in Delhi under her guidance.
Ishaan would assist with election-related work and administrative documentation, she said.
The announcements come as the BSP plans to intensify its party's outreach in Uttar Pradesh and undertake programmes in Punjab and Uttarakhand. Mayawati’s statement also made clear that the party had no plans to readmit Siddharth.
