13th accused arrested in Rs 1.5-crore online trading fraud in Panchkula; held from Jodhpur

Panchkula, Sep 19 (UNI) Panchkula Police have arrested the 13th accused in a Rs 1.50-crore online trading fraud case in which a resident was allegedly lured through Telegram with promises of high returns, shown fictitious profits on a trading app and later asked to pay a 30 per cent “tax” when he sought to withdraw his money, a police spokesperson said on Saturday.
The Cyber Crime Police Station team arrested Ravinder Bishnoi alias Ravi, a resident of Jodhpur, during a raid in the Rajasthan city on September 18. He was produced before a court on Saturday and remanded in police custody for three days.
DCP (Crime and Traffic) Amrinder Singh, IPS, said the victim was contacted through Telegram in November 2023 and persuaded to invest in online trading. The accused allegedly got him to download a trading application and deposit money into different bank accounts.
Police said the app initially showed profits and the victim was also allowed to withdraw some money, helping the fraudsters gain his confidence.
The trap allegedly tightened when the victim attempted to withdraw a larger amount.
He was told that he would first have to deposit 30 per cent as tax. By then, police said, he had allegedly been cheated of around Rs 1.50 crore.
A case was registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station on October 10, 2024, under Sections 316(2), 318(4), 336(2), 338, 340 and 61 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police said 13 accused have so far been arrested in the case.
They have been identified as Rajesh Kumar, Aqib Ali alias Sheru, Akash, Vishal Kumar, Monu alias Mohammad Ashraf, Sandeep Kumar Singh, Rishabh Vaish, Anupam Kumar Singh, Akash Gupta, Anil Khudkhudia, Shyamlal, Suresh Bhadu and Ravinder Bishnoi alias Ravi.
The 12th accused, Suresh Bhadu, was sent to judicial custody after completion of his police remand, while Bishnoi will be questioned during his three-day custody, the spokesperson said.
Sub-Inspector Bhup Singh is investigating the case.
