Congress MP's slap video goes viral ; leaders call it a joke

Nagpur, Nov 4 (UNI) A video purportedly showing Congress Ramtek MP Shyamkumar Barve playfully slapping party colleague and Chandrapur MP Pratibha Dhanorkar has gone viral on social media, prompting both leaders to clarify that the incident was merely a joke.
The episode reportedly occurred on November 1 inside a stationary bus in Delhi, where Opposition MPs had gathered for a protest against the Election Commission.
The video shows Dhanorkar sitting beside MP Varsha Gaikwad and laughing during a conversation when Barve, standing nearby, lightly slaps her. Taken aback, Dhanorkar appears momentarily startled.
Reacting to the controversy on Wednesday, Barve said Dhanorkar was like his younger sister and alleged that the video was being circulated to undermine the Opposition's protest.
He maintained that the exchange was purely a jest and should not be given any other interpretation.
Barve also dismissed as fake an alleged email purportedly sent by some Congress workers from Nagpur to the party leadership, raising objections over the incident.
Dhanorkar, meanwhile, also dismissed any suggestion of wrongdoing, saying that she and some other women leaders were teasing Barve about his marital status when he playfully slapped her.
She told reporters that the incident was nothing more than a light-hearted exchange.
