Maha: Tiger that killed three persons, captured after 15-day operation in Chandrapur

Chandrapur, Nov 4 (UNI) The Forest Department's rescue team has captured a five-year-old tiger suspected of killing three persons in Chimur forest range of Chandrapur district following a 15-day operation, officials said on Wednesday.
The tiger, identified as TATR 189 SAM/BRA T 130 SAM, was tranquilised around midnight on November 3 after sustained efforts by forest personnel to track its movements.
Its capture has brought considerable relief to residents of villages adjoining the forest area, where fear had prevailed following the fatal attacks.
According to forest officials, the tiger had killed two persons in the concerned forest area before claiming another victim within the jurisdiction of the Brahmapuri Forest Division.
The rescue operation was challenging as the animal frequently changed locations and remained extremely cautious about human movement, making it difficult for the team to track and capture it.
The operation was carried out at compartment number 380 in the Gadgaon beat of Chimur forest range.
The tiger was darted at 11.40 pm on November 3 and shifted onto a stretcher at 12.10 am.
After checking its reflexes and completing the necessary medical procedures at 12.25 am, it was safely transported to the Transit Treatment Centre (TTC) at Brahmapuri.
The operation was led by Dr Ravikant S. Khobragade, head of the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve's Rapid Rescue Team, along with shooter Ajay C. Marathe and Brahmapuri-based biologist Rakesh Ahuja.
The successful capture was made possible through coordinated efforts, careful planning and sustained monitoring by the Forest Department, officials said.
