CPI MP Sandosh Kumar demands Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation, accuses ECI of misleading public on Form 6

New Delhi, Oct 5 (UNI) Raising serious questions over the credibility of the Election Commission of India (ECI), Communist Party of India (CPI) Rajya Sabha MP P Sandosh Kumar has demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging that the ECI falsely claimed that the Supreme Court had approved changes to Form 6.
“The Supreme Court has categorically stated that it never approved the modified Form 6. Yet the ECI, under Gyanesh Kumar, claimed in its September 26 press release that the Court had approved the changes,” Sandosh Kumar said in a press statement issued on Monday.
He further alleged that the ECI’s September 26 press release has since been removed from its website.
“Now that press release has mysteriously disappeared from the ECI website. This is not a minor discrepancy—it is a grave assault on institutional credibility,” he said.
The MP also alleged that Gyanesh Kumar ignored objections raised by the other two Election Commissioners and subsequently invoked the Supreme Court’s name to justify the decision.
“Gyanesh Kumar sidelined the objections of the other two Election Commissioners and then sought to use the Supreme Court’s name to legitimise a decision it never approved,” Sandosh Kumar alleged.
Launching a sharp political attack on the Chief Election Commissioner, he said, “This is an unforgivable betrayal of the constitutional responsibility entrusted to the Election Commission. Gyanesh Kumar is a vote-chor, a liar and a butcher of democracy. He has forfeited all moral and institutional authority to remain in office.”
Sandosh Kumar demanded answers from the Election Commission on the circumstances surrounding the changes to Form 6 and the subsequent press release.
“Who altered Form 6, who authorised the false claim about the Supreme Court, and who ordered the deletion of the ECI’s press release?” he asked.
Calling for Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation, Sandosh Kumar said, “If electoral democracy is to survive, he cannot remain in charge of the institution entrusted with protecting it.”
Moreover, over 146 Opposition MPs will march from Parliament to the Election Commission on Tuesday in protest against the poll panel, drawing a parallel with the mass suspension of 146 Opposition MPs during the 2023 Winter Session and demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
