CPI urges early release of Yedula water to Dindi project, warns against regional disputes

Hyderabad, Oct 19 (UNI) CPI National Secretary and former MLA Palla Venkat Reddy and CPI MLC Nellikanti Satyam on Monday urged the Telangana government to immediately commence work to supply water from the Yedula Reservoir to the Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme, cautioning political leaders against creating inter-district disputes over water.
Addressing a press conference at Makhdoom Bhavan in Himayatnagar, they said the project was crucial for providing irrigation and drinking water to fluoride-affected Munugode and Devarakonda constituencies in Nalgonda district. They said the Palamuru project’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) included an allocation of 0.5 TMC for these areas.
Palla Venkat Reddy said the State Cabinet had approved the supply of water from Yedula to the Dindi scheme on September 22, 2024, and administrative sanctions of Rs 1,800 crore were granted on January 22, 2025. With the tender process completed, he questioned the delay in starting the works.
Nellikanti Satyam said the Dindi project was intended to provide irrigation to around 3.40 lakh acres and drinking water to nearly 300 villages. They urged the government to expedite the project, complete pending irrigation schemes in Mahabubnagar district and convene an all-party meeting to resolve the issue. They also called for a united effort to secure national project status for the Palamuru project.
Palla Venkat Reddy criticised BJP leader D K Aruna for allegedly fuelling regional tensions over the scheme, stating that water disputes should not undermine Telangana’s unity.
He also urged the government to reconsider higher RTC fares during the festive season and ensure that electricity charges under the free power scheme apply only to consumption exceeding 200 units, rather than the entire consumption when the limit is crossed.
