Imphal, June 12 (UNI) Curfew was relaxed for 12 hours on Thursday in five districts of Manipur, including the state capital.
In Imphal West, Imphal East, Kakching , Thoubal and Bishnupur, curfew was relaxed from 5 am to 5 pm as per order from district magistrates. The Manipur government announced opening of educational institutes on Thursday in Imphal West and Imphal East. However, most institutes remained closed as the situation remained tense.
A ban on internet services was still in force which created problems in the five districts. The Arambai Tenggol (AT) had called a 10-day bandh to protest the arrest of one of its leaders which was called off on Tuesday. A socio-cultural organization, the AT said the bandh was turning violent.
The AT announced that there is no plan to carry out mass protests or march towards the office or Raj Bhawan.
Traffic jams were witnessed as people came out to buy goods and petroleum products. Some ATMs were opened which witnessed serpentine queues.
