Sudden protest by Gen Z in Agartala calling for removal of CEC, election reforms

Agartala, Oct 12 (UNI) A modest crowd of Generation Z, mostly students, suddenly demonstrated in the city late Sunday evening, seeking the removal of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and a change in the election system.
However, police managed the situation, and unwarranted traffic congestion occurred on VIP Road in Agartala's Circuit House locality. Despite the limited scale of participation, this protest represented a resumption of ongoing agitation demanding the Chief Election Commissioner's removal from office in Tripura.
The demonstrators, mostly aged 20 to 22, included students enrolled in secondary schools, higher educational institutions, and universities. The identities of the protest organizers and the involvement of any supporting organizations or collectives remained undisclosed.
The protesters stated that the student body intended to sustain their agitation until Gyanesh Kumar steps down from his position as CEC and the election system is changed.
The students issued an appeal to citizens throughout Tripura who uphold democratic principles to participate in their initiative, which they characterized as a safeguarding effort for the nation's democratic framework.
They affirmed their commitment to continuing this campaign in pursuit of their stated objective. The demonstration was distinguished by the involvement of youthful students, notwithstanding the relatively modest size of the assembly.
The incident adds a new local dimension to the students’ broader campaign, with the coming days likely to determine whether the agitation remains limited to a small group or gains wider support across Tripura.
