Cyclone threat looms over AP coast; Heavy rain alert issued

Vijayawada, Oct 24 (UNI) A well-marked low-pressure area over the east-central Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a ‘Depression’ by Sunday night and into a severe ‘Cyclonic Storm’ by Monday, according to the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA).
APSDMA Managing Director Prakhar Jain here on Saturday said the weather system is expected to strengthen into a cyclonic storm over the west-central Bay of Bengal by Monday morning and approach the Andhra Pradesh coast by Wednesday morning.
Widespread rainfall is likely across the State from Monday, with heavy to extremely heavy showers expected in several areas on Tuesday and Wednesday. Strong winds are also likely along the coastal belt as the system nears the shore.
