Delhi breach 260-run mark to set new record in women's domestic T20s

New Delhi, Oct 29 (UNI) Delhi rewrote the record books in the Senior Women's T20 Trophy, piling up 262 for 6 against Hyderabad in Pune to register the highest total by any women's team in domestic T20 cricket.
The previous record belonged to Goa, which had scored 257 for 2 against Arunachal Pradesh in the 2019-20 season. Delhi's mammoth total is also the 11th-highest in women's T20 cricket overall, with the 10 scores above it all coming in women's T20 Internationals.
Opening batter Tanisha Singh was at the heart of Delhi's record-breaking effort, smashing 119 off just 47 deliveries. The 23-year-old reached her century in 38 balls, making it the joint third-fastest hundred in women's T20 cricket. Only Kiran Navgire, who took 34 balls, and Sophie Devine, who reached the milestone in 36, have recorded quicker centuries. Tanisha's effort matched Deandra Dottin's 38-ball hundred against South Africa in 2010.
Tanisha's innings featured 25 fours and a six, despite the early dismissal of opening partner Vanshika Lila. She found an ideal partner in Priya Punia, the India international batting at No. 3, as the pair added 160 runs in just 66 deliveries to put Delhi firmly on course for a massive score.
Punia contributed 59 off 28 balls before departing, while Shweta Sehrawat provided another burst of acceleration with 26 off just eight deliveries, including three sixes, as Delhi crossed the 200-run mark.
Tanisha's innings ended when G Trisha bowled her, but Delhi continued to score freely in the closing overs. Nazma Khan and Deeksha Sharma chipped in with quick contributions, while captain Soni Yadav added 15 to take the team to the record total.
Vanka Pooja was Hyderabad's most successful bowler, returning figures of 4 for 32 in her four overs. The rest of the attack struggled to contain Delhi, with each of the other seven bowlers conceding at least 11 runs per over.
Hyderabad began their chase positively, with opener Trisha leading the response. She scored 80 off 52 balls, but the required run rate proved too steep to sustain. Captain Pranavi Chandra was the only other Hyderabad batter to pass 20 as Delhi's bowlers kept the remaining batting line-up in check. Hyderabad eventually finished on 154 for 8, handing Delhi a comprehensive 108-run victory after their record-setting batting display.
