Delhi Police announces enhanced education benefits for personnel’s children as Diwali gift

New Delhi, Nov 4 (UNI) In a Diwali gift to its personnel and their families, the Delhi Police has announced a series of enhanced educational welfare measures, including full tuition fee reimbursement for children of personnel who die in the line of duty, cash incentives for academic excellence and higher scholarships for professional and other courses.
The revised provisions, introduced through amendments to Standing Order No. 01/2023, which governs the Delhi Police Education Fund, aim to expand educational assistance, reward merit, and provide greater financial support to the children of police personnel.
Under the new measures, children of police personnel who laid down their lives while performing official duties will be entitled to reimbursement of the full tuition fee for higher education. The benefit will be applicable from the academic year 2025-26.
In another significant incentive, students securing more than 90 per cent marks in Class X and Class XII examinations will receive a one-time cash award of Rs 5,000 in each category. This provision will also come into effect from the 2025-26 academic session.
The scholarship for children pursuing higher education, including academic, diploma, and professional courses, has been increased from Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000.
The Delhi Police has also introduced a special reward for outstanding performance in national-level competitive examinations. Children of police personnel who secure a position among the top 1,000 candidates in examinations such as IIT-JEE and NEET will receive Rs 50,000 each, along with a certificate of appreciation from the Education Fund.
The amendments also provide greater flexibility to students who decide to change their professional or trade courses after completing the first year. Such students will not be required to refund the scholarship received for the first year, and may continue receiving assistance from the second year of their new course. However, this facility can be availed only once by an employee.
In a move to broaden the financial base of the Education Fund, contributions will now be extended to officers and personnel across all ranks with effect from April 1, 2026. However, eligibility for educational benefits will remain restricted to the children of personnel and officers ranging from Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) to promotee Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs).
The Delhi Police said the amendments reaffirm its commitment to the welfare of its personnel and their families by supporting higher education, recognising academic achievements and easing the financial burden of educational expenses.
