Delhi Police files FIR in IIT Delhi PhD scholar's death

New Delhi, Oct 4 (UNI) The Delhi Police have registered an FIR in connection with the death of an Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi PhD scholar, who passed away on Saturday at AIIMS after remaining under treatment for around 45 days, the police said.
According to police, FIR under section 108 BNS (abetment of suicide), has been registered at the Kishangarh Polie Station in this matter.
Police said that the student was found unconscious, and in an injured condition at his rented accommodation located in Munirka Village, South West Delhi on August 18, this year.
The police said that the door to the scholar's room was locked from the inside, requiring neighbours to break it open. He was immediately shifted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) trauma centre by the police.
For the past more than 45 days, the scholar remained under treatment. An FIR was registered pursuant to the directions of the Supreme Court and on the basis of a complaint received from the Security Officer, at the IIT Delhi.
Concerned authorities have clarified that the alleged incident did not occur inside the IIT Delhi campus.
Meanwhile, during the proceedings so far, no suspicion or allegation was raised against any person by the deceased person's family, or witnesses as the injured was alone in the house back then, which, according to police, was also evident from the analysis of the CCTV footage from the camera installed outside the scholar's accommodation.
Further investigation and proceedings are underway in the matter, the police added.
