Delhi poll panel opens fresh camps to add left-out voters, targets young electors

New Delhi, Sep 25 (UNI) The Election Commission has announced another round of special enrolment camps across Delhi to provide eligible citizens left out of the draft electoral roll an opportunity to seek inclusion, while launching a targeted drive to bring more young and first-time voters into the electoral process amid the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral
rolls.
According to a press note issued by the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Delhi, on Friday, special camps will be held on September 27 at all polling-station locations across the National Capital Territory for eligible citizens whose names do not figure in the draft electoral roll.
The exercise follows the first round of special camps held on September 20 and is aimed at giving eligible electors another opportunity to submit claims for inclusion before the claims and objections deadline.
The Delhi election authorities said the camps form part of the SIR announced by the Election Commission of India on May 14, 2026, with the stated objective of ensuring that “no eligible
citizen is left out while no ineligible person is included in the Electoral Roll.”
In a parallel initiative aimed at increasing youth participation, special enrolment camps will be organised at colleges, universities and other educational institutions across Delhi on September 29 and 30.
The drive will focus particularly on young citizens in the 18-25 age group, with Booth Level Officers deployed at educational institutions along with electoral rolls and blank Form 6 applications.
The Chief Electoral Officer’s office said the BLOs would “guide and assist eligible young voters for filling in the Form-6”, taking the enrolment process directly to institutions where large numbers of first-time and young electors are concentrated.
The authorities have clarified that citizens who have already completed, or will complete, 18 years of age as on October 1, 2026, can submit Form 6 along with the required supporting documents during the special camps.
The initiative is intended to facilitate the entry of a new generation of voters into the electoral roll and remove procedural hurdles that may otherwise discourage first-time electors from registering.
The special camps are being held against the backdrop of the wider SIR exercise in Delhi, under which the electoral rolls are being reviewed and claims and objections relating to inclusion, exclusion, correction and shifting of entries are being processed.
The revision has attracted considerable political attention, with opposition parties questioning the exclusion of names from draft rolls, while the Election Commission has maintained that the exercise is aimed at ensuring an accurate and inclusive electoral register. A range of electoral services will be available during the revision process.
Form 6 is used by new voters seeking inclusion in the electoral roll, while Form 6A is meant for overseas electors. Form 7 enables voters to file objections to proposed inclusion or seek deletion of names from an existing electoral roll. Form 8 is used for shifting residence, correction of entries, replacement of an Electoral Photo Identity Card and marking persons with disabilities.
The Commission has provided both offline and online mechanisms for filing applications. Citizens can submit physical applications to Electoral Registration Officers, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers and Booth Level Officers, as well as at designated polling-station locations during the claims and objections period from August 31 to September 30, 2026.
Applications can also be filed online through the Election Commission’s voter services portal and the ECINET mobile application.
The Delhi election authorities have urged eligible citizens, particularly those attaining voting age, to make use of the special camps and complete the enrolment process before the September 30 deadline.
The educational-institution camps are aimed at making registration more accessible to young voters by bringing electoral officials directly to colleges and universities.
The Chief Electoral Officer’s office reiterated the Commission’s stated commitment to
a comprehensive electoral roll while preventing the inclusion of ineligible persons.
“The Commission reiterates its firm commitment to a transparent, participative and inclusive revision process,” the press note said, repeating the objective that “no eligible citizen is left out while no ineligible person is included in the Electoral Roll.”
With the September 27 camps at polling stations followed by the September 29-30 enrolment drive at educational institutions, the Delhi election machinery is providing multiple avenues for eligible citizens to check their electoral status, seek inclusion and make corrections before the claims and objections process closes on September 30.
The twin initiatives place particular emphasis on reaching those who have been left out of the draft roll and ensuring that newly eligible young voters are brought into the electoral process.
