Outer Delhi Police to set up platform for senior citizens, strengthen community policing

New Delhi, Sept 25 (UNI) The Outer District Police will strengthen community policing initiatives and establish a dedicated platform for senior citizens to facilitate regular interaction, feedback and welfare-oriented engagement, officials said on Friday.
The proposals were discussed during a District Level Committee meeting held at the Conference Hall of Pitampura Police Lines under the chairmanship of Lok Sabha MP Yogender Chandoliya, along with Mundka MLA Gajender Drall.
The meeting brought together senior police officers and 29 co-opted members representing business associations, resident welfare associations (RWAs), JJ clusters, industrialists, educational institutions, social workers and other civic stakeholders.
Encroachments by roadside vendors, traffic congestion and parking-related problems were among the key civic and law-and-order concerns raised by committee members. The MP emphasised the need for closer coordination between the police, civic agencies and community representatives to ensure effective governance, resolve public grievances and improve safety.
During the meeting, Outer District DCP Vikram Singh reviewed the compliance of issues raised at the previous committee meeting and briefed members on ongoing community policing initiatives. The DCP also highlighted the activities of the district's Shishtachar Squad, which is conducting awareness programmes focused on women's and children's safety at public places, including bus stops, inside buses, schools, parks and other community spaces.
The police are also conducting surveys to identify encroachments and other civic issues in the district, Singh informed the meeting. Emphasising the importance of police-public partnership, the DCP called for greater involvement of RWA members and other community representatives in addressing local concerns and improving public safety.
The proposed senior citizens' platform is expected to provide a regular channel for interaction with elderly residents and facilitate the discussion of their concerns and welfare-related issues. The meeting was attended by Additional DCP-I Manoj Kumar Meena, all ACPs and SHOs of Outer District, along with the ACP (Traffic) and Traffic Inspector.
The deliberations concluded with an emphasis on collaborative policing, community participation and responsive governance. Senior police officers assured the committee members that the issues raised during the meeting would be addressed in a time-bound and effective manner, reaffirming the district police's commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring citizen-centric policing.
