On Thursday thousands of devotees thronged the ancient temple located atop the Nilachal Hills in Guwahati seeking divine blessings of the mother Goddesses. On Thursday the temple authorities opened the doors at 5 am after completing all the Vedic rituals.
Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya visited the temple today along with his wife and sought the blessings of the Mother Goddesses.
The annual Ambubachi festival is regarded as the Kumbh of the East due to a large congregation of devotees to the temple.
The annual Ambubachi festival is a significant festival in Assam, held at the Kamakhya temple. It is believed that the Mother Goddess undergoes her menstrual cycle during the month of Ashadha (June-July).
