Dipke alleges activist detentions ahead of Oct 10 Jantar Mantar protest

Nagpur/Hingoli, Oct 8 (UNI) Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Thursday alleged that police and administrative authorities were detaining activists and supporters ahead of the party’s proposed protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on October 10, accusing the Centre of trying to stifle democratic opposition.
In a message posted on social media platform X, Dipke claimed that several individuals associated with the movement were being taken into preventive custody before the scheduled demonstration.
He asserted that such measures would fail to weaken public participation in the protest and instead strengthen support for the campaign.
According to Dipke, CJP workers and sympathisers from various parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Nagpur and Chandrapur, have reported receiving repeated calls and inquiries from local police stations regarding their plans to attend the protest.
He alleged that these actions were aimed at discouraging people from joining the agitation.
The CJP has called for a nationwide mobilisation at Jantar Mantar on October 10, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Dipke has appealed to citizens cutting across political ideologies to participate in the demonstration.
The allegations come amid heightened tensions over the SIR exercise, which critics claim could adversely affect eligible voters.
The Election Commission, however, has maintained that the revision process is intended to eliminate duplicate, deceased and otherwise ineligible names from voter lists and has denied accusations of political bias.
Recent protests against the electoral roll revision and demands for Kumar’s resignation have witnessed detentions of demonstrators in several places.
Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, were also briefly detained during a protest in Delhi earlier this week.
Despite the alleged pressure and detentions, Dipke said preparations for the October 10 protest were continuing and reiterated that the demonstration would remain peaceful and focused on safeguarding democratic and electoral rights.
