Pune, Oct 8 (UNI) Satyaki Savarkar, great-grandson of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, today declined to comment when questioned about remarks attributed to Gopal Godse comparing the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) with thieves during the cross-examination in the criminal defamation case filed against senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, said Rahul Gandhi lawyer Milind Pawar.
The cross-examination of Satyaki Savarkar, the complainant in the case, was conducted by Adv Pawar before Special MP-MLA Court Judge Amol Shriram Shinde in Pune.
The case pertains to alleged defamatory remarks against freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
During the cross-examination, questions were raised about Savarkar's writings and his political and social views. Satyaki Savarkar agreed that "Hindutva" was an important aspect of Savarkar's ideology.
The cross-examination also referred to Savarkar's writings on political issues concerning Hindu and Muslim communities and his writings on "Hindu Rashtra" and "Hindutva".
Adv Pawar also referred to an interview given by Gopal Godse, Satyaki Savarkar's grandfather, and asked him about remarks in which Godse had allegedly compared the RSS with thieves.
Asked for his view on the remarks, Satyaki Savarkar replied, "I do not wish to comment on this."
Adv Pawar also questioned him about alleged anti-Muslim views attributed to Gopal Godse in the interview and referred to remarks allegedly made by Gopal Godse and Sindhu Godse expressing no remorse over Mahatma Gandhi's assassination.
When asked to comment on the issue, Satyaki Savarkar said he did not wish to express any opinion on it.
Adv Sangram Kolhatkar, appearing for the complainant, objected to the question.
The cross-examination continued before the court and was concluded for the day after the court's working hours ended.
