Dushyant Gautam sworn in as 19th Governor of Sikkim

Siliguri, Oct 19 (UNI) BJP leader Dushyant Kumar Gautam was sworn in as the 19th Governor of Sikkim at a ceremony held at Lok Bhavan in Gangtok on Monday, succeeding Om Prakash Mathur, whose tenure as Governor is coming to an end.
Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court, Justice A. Muhamed Mustaque, administered the oath of office and secrecy to Gautam in the presence of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, members of the Council of Ministers, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, senior state government officials and other dignitaries.
Following the swearing-in ceremony, Tamang congratulated the newly appointed Governor and welcomed him by presenting a traditional khada. The CM also introduced Gautam to the dignitaries present at the ceremony, who extended their congratulations and best wishes to him.
Gautam arrived in Sikkim on Sunday ahead of the swearing-in ceremony. He landed at Bagdogra Airport before proceeding to Gangtok by helicopter.
At Burtuk Helipad, he was received by Tamang, Deputy Speaker Raj Kumari Thapa, members of the Council of Ministers, MLAs, the Mayor of Gangtok Municipal Corporation, councillors and senior government officials. He was also accorded a guard of honour by the Sikkim Armed Police.
An official delegation led by Sharmista Pradhan, Additional Secretary-cum-State Protocol Officer, received Gautam on his arrival at Bagdogra Airport.
President Droupadi Murmu appointed Gautam as Governor of Sikkim on October 12.
Meanwhile, a farewell programme was organised at Samman Bhawan in Gangtok, on Sunday, in honour of outgoing Governor Om Prakash Mathur, acknowledging his service and contributions to the state.
