Jharkhand: Bee attacks kill four in Latehar district

Latehar, Oct 19 (UNI) Four people, including three children, have died in separate bee attacks in Jharkhand's Latehar district over the past month, while several others were injured.
The latest incident occurred in Dada village under Bariatu police station limits on Saturday, when a swarm of bees attacked four children and an elderly woman. Six-year-old Aryan Kumar died after being taken to a hospital, while the other injured were reported to be out of danger.
The child was taken to the community health centre in Balumath on Sunday after his condition deteriorated. Doctors declared him dead, according to the report.
In another incident in Khapratala village under Mahuadand block on September 25, a 48-year-old woman, Sarbit Devi, and her three-year-old grandson, Ayan Raj Munda, died after a bee attack. The incident occurred while they were cutting a date palm, the report said.
Earlier, a person died and another was seriously injured in a bee attack in Jharia forest near the Latehar district headquarters.
Palamu Tiger Reserve's Betla range officer Umesh Kumar Dubey said there had been no change in the behaviour of bees. He advised people to maintain a safe distance from beehives and avoid disturbing them.
Dubey also advised people to avoid visiting areas near beehives after applying scented oil. The claim that yellow clothing attracts bees has not been independently verified and has therefore not been presented as an established fact.
The repeated incidents have raised concerns over safety in rural areas, particularly where residents live or work near beehives. People who suffer bee stings should seek medical attention, especially if they develop severe symptoms.
