ECoR clocks 120.76 MT freight loading in first half of FY 26 -27, registers 3.4 pc growth

Bhubaneswar, Oct 8 (UNI) East Coast Railway (ECoR) has recorded 120.76 million tonnes (MT) of freight loading during the first six months of the financial year 2026-27, registering a 3.4 per cent growth over the 116.78 MT loaded during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.
ECoR sources said the growth was achieved through sustained efforts to streamline freight operations, maintain efficient movement of goods and ensure continuity in loading activities across its divisions.
Effective planning, close coordination with stakeholders and efficient management of freight operations helped the railway maintain steady loading and movement of freight during the April-September period, they said.
Among the three divisions, Khurda Road recorded the highest cumulative freight loading at 87.64 MT, registering a growth of 1.7 per cent over the corresponding period of 2025-26.
Rayagada Division loaded 19.97 MT, posting an impressive growth of 8.8 per cent, while Sambalpur Division recorded 13.15 MT, registering a growth of 7.3 per cent.
Coal continued to be the major contributor to ECoR's freight loading. Cumulative coal loading up to September 2026 stood at 71.01 MT against 68.46 MT during the corresponding period last year, registering a growth of 3.7 per cent.
Iron ore loading recorded particularly strong growth, rising to 19.60 MT from 17.19 MT, an increase of 14 per cent.
Container loading also grew by 7.8 per cent to 2.10 MT, while iron and steel loading registered a marginal growth of 0.3 per cent.
ECoR also registered robust growth in freight unloading during the first half of the current financial year. From April to September 2026, the railway unloaded 109.66 MT of freight, marking a 10 per cent increase over 100.11 MT handled during the corresponding period of the previous year.
Khurda Road Division recorded the highest unloading at 78.33 MT, registering an 11 per cent growth. It was followed by Sambalpur Division, which unloaded 22.84 MT with a growth of 6 per cent, and Rayagada Division, which handled 8.49 MT, registering a 3 per cent growth.
The performance underscores ECoR's continued focus on improving freight efficiency, strengthening coordination with freight stakeholders and maintaining seamless movement of goods across its network.
