Employment works in full swing in Telangana; Minister urges Centre to double work days

Hyderabad, June 24 (UNI) Employment guarantee works are progressing rapidly across Telangana, with the state achieving 70 per cent of its annual target within the first two months.
Of the 6.5 crore workdays allocated by the Centre under the employment guarantee scheme, 4.53 crore workdays have already been completed.
Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Minister Dr Danasari Anasuya Seethakka revealed that over 28.48 lakh labourers from 18.9 lakh families have been engaged this year, with 1,127 families completing the maximum 100 workdays.
On average, each family has worked 24 days, earning Rs. 250.75 per day, though efforts are underway to raise the daily wage to Rs. 307.
Minister Seethakka has written to the Central Government, requesting the number of workdays be increased to 12 crore, as in previous years, citing rising demand and the state’s efficient implementation. She added that she would soon meet with central leaders to push for approval.
The state has prioritised agriculture-related employment, setting a target of 60 per cent of works in this category. So far, 50 percent of the works include farm ponds, cattle sheds, and plantations. Infrastructure projects like Gram Panchayat buildings, Anganwadi centres, and CC roads are also underway at over 1.31 lakh sites.
Despite delays in fund releases from the Centre, Telangana has spent Rs. 1,416 crore on employment works till May-end, of which Rs. 1,151.67 crore was paid as wages and Rs. 733.52 crore has already been credited to labourers’ accounts.
With increasing rural demand and strong progress, the Telangana government remains committed to enhancing employment opportunities and rural infrastructure, while urging the Centre for greater support.
