Fadnavis assures farmers of drought relief, announces loan waiver for left-out beneficiaries

Washim, Sept 24 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday assured farmers that the state government would stand by them and announced that those who were excluded from the earlier farm loan waiver scheme would also be provided relief.
Fadnavis is on a visit to Masal village in Washim district when a large number of farmers gathered to meet him and raise concerns over crop losses, water shortages and difficulties faced by livestock owners.
As his convoy was leaving, farmers raised their hands to draw his attention. Fadnavis stopped and spoke to them, assuring them that their grievances would be addressed.
"We will help all of you and resolve your problems. Do not worry. We will issue a government resolution (GR) for drought relief. Issues related to crop insurance will also be resolved," Fadnavis told the farmers.
He also announced a fresh loan relief initiative for farmers who had been left out of the loan waiver announced in 2016-17.
"All those who were left out of the 2016-17 loan waiver will be given loan relief. We will also extend assistance to farmers who were deprived of the benefits. Do not worry; the government is with you," Fadnavis said.
The announcement was welcomed by the farmers, who raised slogans in support of the Chief Minister.
Fadnavis had on Wednesday visited drought-affected areas in Latur, Dharashiv and Solapur districts and interacted with farmers to assess the situation. During the visit, he described the drought in Latur as the worst since 1972 and termed the situation extremely severe.
The Chief Minister has also assured farmers that the government would not leave anyone without assistance during the drought and that necessary measures would be taken to provide relief to affected farming communities. UNI SP AAB
