Fadnavis blasts Oppn over politicization of student protests, defends police; confirms strict drought mitigation steps

Mumbai, Oct 6 (UNI) Launching a scathing attack on the opposition, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has accused certain political factions of attempting to undermine constitutional institutions, delegitimize democratic systems, and foster radical leftist ideologies under the guise of student agitations.
Addressing a comprehensive range of pressing state issues during his media interaction, Fadnavis firmly defended the Mumbai Police, dismissed opposition narratives surrounding ongoing student protests, outlined swift administrative relief for drought-hit regions, and clarified the government's stance on local political developments.
Dismissing allegations leveled by the Mumbai Congress, Fadnavis praised the local police force as thorough professionals who do not arbitrarily detain citizens. He asserted that while student grievances are genuine and the government remains proactive, bodies like the NSUI are deliberately trying to prolong agitations for political mileage.
Addressing NCP leader Rohit Pawar’s demands regarding commission leadership, Fadnavis stated that removing a chairperson is bound by constitutional protocols rather than executive whims. Questioning the logic behind targeting officials who were not in office during past paper leaks, he noted that the administration has nonetheless recommended a committee to the Governor to build trust among aspirants.
Fadnavis warned that deliberate efforts are underway to cultivate public distrust in foundational democratic bodies, cautioning that hardline elements are attempting to replace standard democratic frameworks.
Highlighting proactive disaster management, Fadnavis announced that official directives have been issued to preserve drinking water reserves through August. Central inspection teams are scheduled to tour affected districts by the 11th to compile ground reports, while crop surveys are being expedited at record speeds.
