Farhan replaces Agha as Pakistan’s T20I skipper

New Delhi, Oct 6 (UNI)Sahibzada Farhan has replaced Salman Ali Agha as Pakistan’s T20I captain for the three-match series against Sri Lanka, beginning Friday in Rawalpindi. Salman has also been dropped from the T20I squad, but remains part of the ODI setup for the tri-series involving Sri Lanka and England.
The changes follow a disappointing run for Pakistan, who lost last year’s Asia Cup final to India and failed to reach the semifinals of the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Farhan, who recently captained Pakistan to a silver medal at the Asian Games, will now lead the T20I side. Pakistan lost the gold-medal match to India.
Fast bowler Naseem Shah returns to the T20I squad after missing the side’s last assignment at the T20 World Cup. Razaullah, who impressed in the third Test against England, has received his maiden white-ball call-up and has been selected in both squads.
Former captain Babar Azam has been left out of the T20I side, while several Asian Games performers have earned places in the squad. Hasan Nawaz retained his spot after scoring 96 against India in the Asian Games final. He had last played a T20I in November 2025 before returning for the continental event.
Abdul Samad, Maaz Sadaqat, Arafat Minhas and Sufiyan Moqim have also been picked after featuring at the Asian Games but missing the T20 World Cup squad.
Shaheen Afridi has been rested for the T20I series but will captain Pakistan in the ODI tri-series, which starts on October 18 in Rawalpindi. Salman has been included in the ODI squad despite losing the T20I captaincy.
The Sri Lanka series will also mark Shaun Tait’s return as Pakistan’s bowling coach. Tait previously held the role from February 2022 for a year.UNI TB AAB
