Kapil Dev Invitational Tour Championship tees off with Rs 2-cr purse

Greater Noida, Oct 6 (UNI) With the season’s top prize contenders battling for the last available spots in the season finale, the Vishwa Samudra presents Kapil Dev Invitational Tour Championship powered by NALCO tees off at Jaypee Greens here on Wednesday with a star-studded field and Rs 2-crore prize purse at stake.
The October 7-10 championship assumes added significance as it is the **final opportunity for players to break into the top 24 of the Race to DP World India Championship**, with the season-ending field to be finalised after this event.
For the first time, the Kapil Dev Invitational, now in its fourth edition, has been elevated to the Tour Championship, bringing together 64 professionals, including the current top 60 on the DP World PGTI Order of Merit.
The field has a strong Indian presence, led by Shubhankar Sharma, reigning DP World PGTI Order of Merit champion Yuvraj Sandhu and current Order of Merit leader Saptak Talwar.
Khalin Joshi, Veer Ahlawat, Honey Baisoya, Akshay Sharma and Rashid Khan are among the other prominent Indian names seeking to finish the season strongly.
Talwar will have the added advantage of playing at his home course, while fellow Greater Noida-based professionals Amardeep Malik and Arjun Sharma will also be in the field.
The tournament has attracted 10 overseas professionals from eight countries, including Sri Lanka’s N Thangaraja, Italy’s Michele Ortolani, Bangladesh’s Jamal Hossain, Badal Hossain and Md Akbar Hossain, Nepal’s Subash Tamang, Czech Republic’s Stepan Danek, Uganda’s Joshua Seale, Thailand’s Tanapat Pichaikool and Japan’s Koichiro Ishika.
The event also breaks from the conventional professional golf format by introducing a Pro-Am competition across **all four rounds**.
A different set of amateurs will team up with professionals in each round. While the professionals will compete in regular stroke play, amateurs will play a modified scramble format. The professional’s score will count towards both the individual championship and the Pro-Am competition, with the top three Pro-Am teams rewarded after each round.
DP World PGTI President Kapil Dev said he was delighted to see the tournament return as the Tour Championship, particularly with the best professionals on the Tour competing alongside amateurs.
“The tournament promises intense competition as the DP World PGTI’s top-60 professionals will not only be competing for the trophy this week, but also for the final opportunity to secure their place among the top-24 of the Race to DP World India Championship,” he said.
DP World PGTI CEO Amandeep Johl said the tournament's elite field, Rs 2-crore purse and distinctive format would make it a memorable event for players and fans.
The championship is presented by Vishwa Samudra and powered by NALCO, with APL Apollo Steel Pipes, Himalayan and Powerade as Event Partners and Zee5 and Unite8 Sports as Broadcast Partners.
