Farooq Abdullah remembers Nana Patekar as ‘very good friend’, ‘very good human being’

Srinagar, Oct 8 (UNI) National Conference president and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah on Thursday described veteran actor Nana Patekar as a “very good friend” and a “very good human being” who devoted his life to helping the poor and needy.
Patekar, 75, died of a cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa on Thursday morning.
“He was a very good friend of mine and, above all, a very good human being. Throughout his life, he helped the poor and the needy,” Abdullah told reporters. “In fact, he used to live among downtrodden people in tribal villages and worked to address the problems of those in need.”
Recalling his association with the actor, Abdullah said Patekar had visited Jammu and Kashmir several times.
“He used to come here again and again and meet me. Once, he even came to a wedding where I got an opportunity to dance with him,” Abdullah said.
The former Chief Minister said the actor possessed a rare quality of “softness” and never allowed religious considerations to come in the way of helping people.
“He never looked at religion; he looked at a person's pain and tried to alleviate it as much as he could,” he said.
Abdullah said Patekar’s contribution to society would not be forgotten.
“ God had blessed him greatly. He did everything he could to help people, and no one can forget his contribution. His memory will always remain with us,” he said.
Expressing grief over the actor’s death, Abdullah said he had heard the news with sadness on Thursday morning and prayed for his soul.
Praising Patekar’s acting prowess, Abdullah described him as an amazing actor and said his final film, which he had recently completed shooting for in Goa, would also showcase his talent.
