Fire breaks out at Tehsildar office in Bhayander; second govt office blaze in two days

Mumbai, Nov 4 (UNI)A fire broke out at the Upper Tehsildar office in Bhayander West area of neghbouring Palghar district on late Tuesday night, marking the second fire incident involving a government office in the Mira-Bhayander area within two days and raising concerns over fire safety arrangements in public buildings.
The blaze erupted on the first floor of the office, located behind Maxus Mall, at around 2200 hrs on November 3. The office was closed at the time of the incident, and no casualties have been reported.
According to preliminary information, a security guard and passers-by noticed the fire and alerted the police and fire brigade. Firefighters rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control, although smoke continued to linger in the vicinity for some time.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined, while the extent of damage to government records and office property is being assessed. Fire officer Prakash Borade said an investigation into the incident was underway.
The latest incident comes a day after a fire broke out at the Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) headquarters on Monday morning, damaging files and computers belonging to the health and solid waste management departments housed on the first floor.
A short circuit in the air-conditioning system was suspected to have triggered that blaze.
Following the municipal headquarters fire, MBMC Commissioner Radhabinod Sharma had ordered a fire safety audit of government offices across the city.
The recurrence of fire incidents at government establishments on consecutive days has brought the safety of official premises, including the protection of important records and equipment, into focus.
Further details regarding the cause and extent of damage in the latest incident are awaited.
