Flood situation in Odisha under control amid deep depression: SEOC

Bhubaneswar, Sep 28 (UNI) The rainfall and localised flood situation in parts of Odisha triggered by a deep depression is under control, with the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) maintaining round-the-clock surveillance of the affected areas, officials said on Monday.
The deep depression has affected some blocks in Koraput and Nabarangpur districts and several areas of Baleshwar, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Mayurbhanj, according to the latest SEOC situation report.
As many as 64 response teams, including 57 ODRAF and seven NDRF teams, have been deployed across the affected districts to undertake rescue and relief operations.
Baleshwar has nine ODRAF and two NDRF teams, while Koraput has four ODRAF teams, Nabarangpur five, Bhadrak three and Jajpur three ODRAF and one NDRF team.
The authorities have advised people to closely monitor weather conditions and move to safer locations during lightning and adverse weather. District administrations have also been directed to take immediate measures in case of localised flooding, road waterlogging and closure of urban underpasses.
Officials have been asked to remain vigilant for possible minor damage to unpaved roads and weak structures, landslides and damage to horticultural and standing crops in waterlogged areas.
In Koraput, two blocks, 20 gram panchayats and 41 villages have been affected, impacting 6,395 people. As many as 2,684 people have been evacuated and 36 relief camps opened.
In Nabarangpur, three blocks, 13 gram panchayats and 31 villages have been affected, with 16,891 people impacted. A total of 2,393 people have been evacuated and 18 relief camps opened.
Rising water levels in the Budhabalanga, Baitarani, Subarnarekha and Jalka rivers have affected several areas of Baleshwar, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Mayurbhanj.
In Baleshwar, 50,456 people in 541 villages have been affected, while 49,590 people have been evacuated and sheltered in 77 relief camps.
In Jajpur, 5,059 people have been affected, 3,876 evacuated and 19 relief camps opened.
Bhadrak has reported 11,251 affected people, of whom 8,278 have been evacuated and accommodated in 66 relief camps.
In Mayurbhanj, 2,425 people have been affected, while 2,354 have been evacuated and sheltered in 22 relief camps.
Meanwhile, Odisha recorded an average rainfall of just 0.1 mm during the preceding 24 hours, indicating a significant decline in rainfall across the state. Sundargarh received 1.3 mm of rainfall, while all other districts recorded nil rainfall during the period.
The SEOC, in coordination with all District Emergency Operation Centres (DEOCs), is monitoring the situation round-the-clock and coordinating response measures in the affected areas.
