Four held for Rs 5.75 lakh cyber fraud through APK file

Panchkula, Oct 4 (UNI) Haryana Police have arrested four men from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand in connection with an alleged cyber fraud in which a Faridabad resident lost Rs 5.75 lakh after his mobile phone was allegedly hacked through an APK file sent on WhatsApp, a police official said on Sunday.
The accused have been identified as Gaurav and Suraj, residents of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, Diwakar of Buxar in Bihar and Nishant of Jamtara in Jharkhand, who were arrested by a team of the NIT Cyber Police Station in Faridabad.
According to the Haryana Police official, a resident of Saran village in Faridabad complained that he received an APK file on WhatsApp on December 26, 2025.
The complainant alleged that his phone was hacked soon after he downloaded the file and a total of Rs 5,75,570 was subsequently debited from his bank account through multiple transactions.
A case was registered at the NIT Cyber Police Station under the relevant provisions of law and an investigation was launched.
“During interrogation, it emerged that accused Gaurav was the account holder and had given his bank account to Suraj. Suraj further gave it to Diwakar, who subsequently passed it on to Nishant,” the police official said.
Police said Gaurav is a B.Tech graduate, while Diwakar and Nishant are pursuing B.Tech courses. Suraj is pursuing a B.Pharma course.
Gaurav, Suraj and Diwakar were produced before a court, which remanded them in police custody for two days for further questioning, the official said.
