Haryana: Faridabad Police net 45 cyber cheats in one-week blitz, recover Rs 13.5 Lakh

Faridabad, Oct 4 (UNI) Faridabad Police have arrested 45 cyber criminals and recovered over Rs 13 lakh in cash within a single week, the Haryana Police said, marking one of the most concentrated crackdowns on online fraud in the district's recent history.
The blitz, carried out between September 26 and October 2 under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) Himadri Kaushik, saw teams from the district's three dedicated cyber police stations -- NIT, Central and Ballabhgarh -- fan out simultaneously to track down suspects linked to digital swindles, a police spokesperson said on Saturday.
"During the week-long operation, 45 cyber criminals were arrested in nine separate cases, and Rs 13,48,600 was recovered from the accused," the spokesperson said. "In addition, Rs 3,48,600 was frozen in various bank accounts linked to cyber fraud complaints before the money could be siphoned off."
The case breakdown reveals the breadth of the dragnet. Cyber police station NIT registered four cases, Central police station handled two, and Ballabhgarh police station covered three, the spokesperson said. Beyond the arrests, the teams also disposed of 176 pending complaints during the same period, indicating a deliberate effort to clear the district's cybercrime backlog while fresh traps were being laid.
The operation underscores a growing recognition within the Haryana Police that cybercrime cannot be tackled reactively. By freezing accounts and recovering cash within days of registration of complaints, the Faridabad teams are attempting to narrow the critical window between fraud and withdrawal during which most digital loot disappears into layered accounts.
DCP Himadri Kaushik has simultaneously launched a public awareness offensive, the spokesperson said, urging citizens to treat every unsolicited digital approach with suspicion. "Do not click on unknown links. Never share banking or personal information with anyone, and do not disclose OTPs under any circumstances," the spokesperson quoted Kaushik as saying. "No bank or authorized institution ever asks customers for confidential banking details over the phone."
