Gaya-Bangkok direct flight to boost Bihar’s global connectivity: Samrat

Patna, Oct 26 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Monday said the launch of a direct flight between Gaya and Bangkok would strengthen the state’s international connectivity and help link it with global markets, while boosting tourism, trade and investment opportunities.
Choudhary said the development of the aviation sector was crucial for Bihar’s economic growth, employment generation and international recognition, adding that the new service was another step in this direction.
The Chief Minister virtually flagged off IndiGo Airlines’ non-stop flight from Gaya to Bangkok at a programme held at Sankalp in Patna. Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav attended the programme as special guests.
Choudhary said connecting Bihar with international air routes was important from the perspective of development. Improved air connectivity would make it easier for businesspeople, entrepreneurs and investors from the state to access international markets and could also create fresh investment opportunities.
The state government was working to expand aviation infrastructure and improve Bihar’s connectivity with major destinations in India and abroad, he added.
Highlighting Gaya and Bodh Gaya’s international significance as major centres of Buddhist pilgrimage and spiritual tourism, Choudhary said a large number of Buddhist devotees from Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries visit Bodh Gaya.
The direct flight would make travel more convenient for pilgrims and tourists and was expected to strengthen religious, cultural and tourism ties between Bihar and Thailand, he added.
He said efforts were underway to improve connectivity between Bihar and destinations such as Dubai and Nepal. Work was also in progress to develop aviation facilities at several locations, including Purnea and Darbhanga, besides Gaya and Patna.
The Gaya-Bangkok direct flight service commenced during the day. According to available information, the service will operate twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays. The flight will depart Gaya at 1.15 pm and arrive in Bangkok at 5.50 pm. The return flight will leave Bangkok at 10.15 am and reach Gaya at 12.15 pm.
