Gram Sabhas to pass resolutions on El Niño action plan on Oct 2: Seethakka

Hyderabad, Sep 21 (UNI) Telangana Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Danasari Anasuya Seethakka on Monday directed officials to prepare village-level action plans to tackle the possible impact of El Niño and place them before Gram Sabhas on October 2.
Reviewing the department's programmes at the Panchayat Raj Commissioner's office in Khairatabad, Ms Seethakka said Gram Sabhas should discuss the specific needs of each village, available funds and proposed development works and pass appropriate resolutions.
She said works should be prioritised based on local requirements rather than adopting a uniform plan for all Gram Panchayats, with emphasis on creating permanent community assets and providing employment.
The Minister said around Rs 6,700 crore was being spent under the Employment Guarantee Scheme this year and directed officials to provide work to all those seeking employment.
She also instructed officials to accelerate the Jalasiri programme and undertake water conservation, storage and groundwater recharge works as a precaution against possible water shortages due to El Niño.
Ms Seethakka directed district-level monitoring officers to visit villages, interact with local staff and assess ground-level conditions. She said the government's objective was to transform every Gram Panchayat into a model panchayat with employment opportunities, basic infrastructure, water security and permanent community assets, according to an official statement.
