Green Tankers initiative to begin in Hyderabad core urban region from Nov 1

Hyderabad, Oct 31 (UNI) Telangana Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju on Saturday directed all government departments to use treated water for construction, landscaping, cleaning and other non-drinking purposes as part of coordinated measures to conserve freshwater and groundwater resources and ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply in the core urban region.
Reviewing the drinking water supply situation at the Secretariat, he said the Green Tankers initiative would be launched in the core urban region from November 1 to promote the use of treated water for non-potable requirements.
He instructed officials to regularly test the quality of treated water supplied by Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) to ensure compliance with prescribed standards.
He also directed the Managing Director of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) to submit daily reports on the quantity of treated water transported and supplied, measured in million gallons per day (MGD).
HMWSSB Managing Director Ashok Reddy informed the meeting that the additional 40 MGD scheme under Mission Bhagiratha would be completed by November 15.
He said bulk water supply under the mission would continue to all Urban Local Bodies merged into municipal corporations until August next year.
The Water Board would also supply treated water through Green Tankers on demand, similar to its existing drinking water tanker service.
The facility would be made available through a dedicated mobile application to enable consumers to access treated water conveniently.
As part of the Save Water Campaign, efforts are being made to reduce water consumption by 20 per cent among individuals, institutions and industries through awareness and conservation measures.
HYDRAA Commissioner Ranganath, MA&UD Secretary Sarfraz Ahmed and other senior officials attended the meeting.
