Greenfield high connecting Singtam and Melli is Centre's gift to Sikkim: Gadkari

Gangtok, June 12 (UNI) The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved a new Greenfield Highway in Sikkim, connecting Melli to Singtam, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari informed on Thursday.
Gadkari in a communication to Sikkim Chief Minister Prem singh Tamang said the road connectivity within Sikkim between Singtam and Melli is a gift to the landlocked eastern Himalayan state on its 50th year of statehood.
"This highway is important as it will allow vehicles to travel from Melli to Singtam fully within Sikkim, avoiding the current route through West Bengal. Currently, vehicles heading to Gangtok from the NH10 have to take a detour via Melli in West Bengal.. It is also expected to ease traffic on NH10," a Sikkim government communique said on Thursday.
