GST Council meeting rescheduled, set for October 8

New Delhi, Oct 6 (UNI) The 57th GST Council meeting has been rescheduled for the second time and will now be held on October 8, according to an official communication issued by the GST Council Secretariat.
The meeting was scheduled earlier for October 7. In an office memorandum, the GST Council Secretariat said the latest change in schedule was necessitated by “unavoidable circumstances”.
The GST Council, chaired by union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and comprising finance ministers from the states and union Territories, is set to take up a range of issues related to the functioning of the Goods and Services Tax regime.
Among the key matters on the agenda are proposed changes to the registration, returns and refunds processes under GST. The discussions are expected to focus on simplifying procedures and making compliance more efficient for taxpayers.
The Council is also likely to consider policy measures aimed at addressing GST-related disputes and improving the flow of input tax credit. These reforms are intended to reduce compliance-related costs and the time businesses spend meeting GST requirements.
The meeting comes at a time when the government is looking to streamline GST administration and make the tax system more responsive to the concerns of businesses and taxpayers. The Council’s decisions could have implications for the way companies manage registrations, file returns, claim refunds and avail input tax credit under the indirect tax regime.
