Haryana: 5,319 kg Suspected unsafe paneer destroyed in Nuh raids, fabric whitener seized

Nuh, Nov 1 (UNI) Haryana authorities destroyed 5,319 kg of suspected unsafe paneer during late-night raids on six dairies in Nuh district, where food safety officials also found fabric whitener and a colour-removing chemical, the district administration said on Sunday.
The raids were conducted at Gujjar Nangla village in the Firozpur Jhirka subdivision under the directions of Deputy Commissioner Akhil Pilani.
Officials sealed 818 kg of suspected raw materials and chemicals and collected seven paneer samples for laboratory examination.
Food Safety Officer Dr Vikas Jaglan said inspection teams found several substances at the dairy premises, including palm oil, milk powder, soya products, Rangkat, a colour-removing substance, and Ranipal Fabric Whitener, which is used to whiten and brighten fabrics.
The recovery has raised concerns about the possible use of non-standard ingredients in paneer production, although laboratory tests have yet to establish the nature and extent of any adulteration.
According to the administration, the seized materials included 750 kg of milk powder, 60 kg of palm oil, 5 kg of Ranipal Fabric Whitener and 3 kg of Rangkat. The entire 818 kg stock was sealed at one dairy premises for further investigation.
Officials said the paneer was being prepared under unhygienic conditions, prompting authorities to destroy the stock by burying it in a pit under administrative supervision to prevent it from reaching consumers.
The operation was conducted in the presence of Firozpur Jhirka Sub-Divisional Magistrate Ruhani Seth, under the supervision of four duty magistrates. Six food safety officers participated in the raids.
Deputy Commissioner Pilani warned that adulteration of milk and dairy products, particularly through the suspected use of chemicals, could pose serious health risks.
"Those compromising the quality and purity of food products will not be spared under any circumstances," Pilani said, according to the administration's statement.
He said surprise inspections and enforcement drives would continue against the manufacture, storage, transportation and sale of adulterated and unsafe food products across the district.
The administration said the seven paneer samples would be sent to a food laboratory to determine their quality, purity and possible adulteration.
Further action against the food business operators would be taken under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, after the laboratory reports were received.
