CPI(M) Himachal workers join INDIA bloc rally in Delhi, demand CEC's removal

Shimla, Nov 1 (UNI)Thousands of workers of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) from Himachal Pradesh participated in the INDIA bloc rally in New Delhi on November 1, demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and scrapping of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
In a statement issued here, CPI(M) state secretary Sanjay Chauhan alleged that the Election Commission, under the leadership of Kumar, had deprived crores of people of their voting rights by deleting their names from electoral rolls.
The rally demanded Kumar's removal from office and legal action against him, restoration of the voting rights of those whose names had been deleted, and withdrawal of the SIR exercise.
The participants also called for amendments to the law governing the appointment of election commissioners and wider electoral reforms to safeguard democratic rights.
Chauhan claimed that the large turnout at the rally had sent a clear message to the BJP-led Central government that the movement would continue until the demands concerning the Chief Election Commissioner and SIR were addressed.
He further alleged that the BJP government, under the influence of the RSS, was undermining democratic institutions and constitutional values.
