Democracy is India's soul, no anarchist can destroy it: Jitendra Singh

Kishtwar, Nov 1 (UNI) union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh on Sunday said democracy is the soul of India and no anarchist force could destroy it, asserting that attempts to destabilise elected governments through street protests would not succeed.
Addressing a gathering after leading the ‘Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao’ (Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy) Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district, Singh said the massive participation of local residents, party workers and supporters reflected the strength of democratic values even in the country's remote and far-flung regions.
A large number of people joined the march from the Tourist Reception Centre to Dak Bungalow, expressing their support for the campaign.
Singh said the strong voice emerging from the mountainous region and reaching Delhi and other parts of the country sent a clear message to forces attempting to divide the nation, society and communities.
He said that the spirit of democracy is not confined to Delhi or states surrounding the national capital but was deeply rooted across the country, including its most remote regions. The participation in Kishtwar demonstrated that people in far-flung areas were equally aware of their democratic rights and committed to constitutional values, he added.
Taking a dig at the Opposition, the Minister alleged that parties unable to secure public support through elections are attempting to create political instability by taking to the streets and calling for the removal of elected governments.
He said such an approach reflected a lack of understanding of India's democratic ethos, adding that governments are formed and changed through elections and the people's mandate, not through street protests.
Singh said democracy is not merely a political arrangement but a value deeply embedded in India's collective ethos. He added that people would not accept attempts to create anarchy or destabilise governments elected through the democratic process.
The Minister further claimed that repeated statements by Opposition leaders questioning democratic institutions and electoral mandates are contributing to increased public support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Referring to the BJP's electoral performance in recent elections, he said the Opposition needed to introspect on its political shortcomings instead of blaming democratic institutions for its electoral setbacks.
Praising Modi's leadership, Singh said the Prime Minister enjoyed support across the country, including remote and geographically challenging regions such as Kishtwar.
He said Modi has established a direct connection with people through an approach focused on transparent governance, accountability, development and the delivery of welfare schemes. Continued public support for his leadership, he added, reflected people's confidence in the country's direction.
Explaining the objective of the nationwide campaign, Singh said the ‘Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao’ initiative aimed to highlight the importance of democratic values, constitutional institutions and respect for the people's mandate.
He said similar yatras were being organised in towns and cities across the country to convey a common message of democratic unity, with Prime Minister Modi serving as the central force bringing people together.
The Kishtwar march was part of the wider nationwide campaign, with party leaders and workers participating in similar programmes in different towns and cities.
