Haryana athletes shine at 2026 Asian Games with 32 medal-winning performances

Panchkula, Oct 5 (UNI) Haryana's athletes made a significant contribution to India's campaign at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, with 32 medal-winning performances, including 14 gold, as the country finished fourth in the final medal standings.
India concluded the Games with 85 medals — 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze. China topped the standings with 169 gold medals, followed by hosts Japan with 83 and South Korea with 39. India finished fourth with 21 golds, ahead of Uzbekistan, which also won 21 golds but had fewer silver medals.
According to figures released by the Haryana government, athletes from the state contributed to 32 medal-winning performances across individual and team events, including 14 gold, nine silver, and nine bronze. Haryana's contribution was particularly prominent in the gold category.
The state government said Haryana sportspersons figured in 14 of India's 21 gold-medal performances, five in individual competitions and nine in team events.
According to the state government's breakdown, five Haryana sportspersons won gold in individual events, while players from Haryana featured in nine gold-medal team events. Haryana athletes also contributed to nine silver-medal performances, including four in individual competitions and five in team events.
In the bronze category, the state government's figures credit Haryana athletes with nine medal-winning performances, eight in individual competitions and one in a team event. The figures put Haryana's overall contribution at 14 gold, nine silver, and nine bronze medal-winning performances, for a total of 32.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini congratulated the Indian contingent and the state's medal winners, saying their performances had burnished the country's reputation. "You all have raised the prestige of the country across the world," Saini said. He added that the athletes' achievements reflected their hard work, discipline and determination on the international stage.
Haryana has traditionally produced a significant share of India's talent in wrestling, boxing, shooting and athletics. The latest results reinforce the state's status as a powerhouse of Indian sport, with its athletes again proving pivotal to the country's success at a major international multi-sport event.
