Haryana: CBSE Science Challenge for Classes VIII-X announced; registration opens on Oct 14

Panchkula, Oct 13 (UNI) The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) today announced the Science Challenge 2026-27 for students of Classes VIII to X, with registration opening on October 14 and a two-stage assessment designed to test scientific reasoning, problem-solving skills, speed and accuracy.
According to a circular issued by CBSE Director (Academics) Dr Praggya M. Singh, the competition will comprise a school-level round from November 2 to 13, followed by a computer-based second round to be conducted on a date between November 30 and December 4.
All students of Classes VIII to X in CBSE-affiliated schools are eligible for the first round, with no participation fee at either stage.
Schools must register the number of participating students between October 14 and 30 through the CBSE Science Challenge portal using their List of Candidates (LOC) credentials.
The Board will make the multiple-choice question paper and scoring criteria available on November 2. Schools will conduct the assessment under teacher supervision, with a maximum time limit of 60 minutes.
CBSE said students would be assessed on both accuracy and speed. Those answering the maximum number of questions correctly will receive preference, while completion time will be considered in cases of equal scores.
Each participating school will select six students — two each from Classes VIII, IX and X — for the second round. Registration of the selected students will take place from November 17 to 25.
The second round will be conducted through a computer-based assessment on a single day between November 30 and December 4. The exact date and detailed arrangements will be communicated separately.
All second-round participants will receive online participation certificates, while appreciation certificates will be awarded to the best-performing students.
The Board has urged schools to encourage participation, saying the initiative aims to develop scientific curiosity, critical thinking and higher-order problem-solving abilities among students. UNI KK SS
