Haryana CM orders timely lifting of paddy, bajra; senior officers to inspect mandis

Chandigarh, Oct 7 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday directed officials to ensure timely lifting of paddy and bajra procured from mandis across the state and said farmers should not face any inconvenience in selling their produce during the ongoing kharif procurement season.
Chairing a review meeting here, Saini said the entire procurement process, from purchase and lifting to payment to farmers, should function smoothly and efficiently. Officials informed him that about five lakh quintals of paddy had been procured so far, following which the Chief Minister directed that lifting be expedited to prevent stocks from accumulating in mandis.
“Farmers should not face any inconvenience during procurement. The entire process, from purchase and lifting to timely payment, must function smoothly and efficiently,” Saini said.
He also directed Administrative Secretaries to personally visit mandis, assess procurement and lifting arrangements and facilities being provided to farmers, and submit reports to the government. HCS-level officers have also been deployed at mandis to oversee procurement operations on the ground.
The Chief Minister said the state government would ensure that farmers receive the benefit of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs 2,900 per quintal for bajra this year. The government would procure bajra at Rs 2,300 per quintal, while the difference between the price received by farmers and the MSP would be compensated under the Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana, subject to the provisions of the scheme.
Officials told the meeting that bajra was currently being sold in the open market at an average price of around Rs 2,235 per quintal and was also being purchased by private dealers.
Saini also said departmental teams had been constituted to deal with issues relating to paddy stocks remaining with rice millers from the previous procurement season. Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, Additional Chief Secretary, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Vijayendra Kumar, Principal Secretary, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Amneet P Kumar, and other senior officials attended the meeting.
