Haryana: CRPF jawan honoured for killing 4 militants on Independence Day accused of murdering wife in Rohtak

Chandigarh, Oct 24 (UNI) A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan, who was allegedly honoured on Independence Day for killing four militants during an operation in Manipur, has been accused of slitting his wife's throat in Haryana's Rohtak district, just two days after returning home on leave.
The accused, identified as Sombir, a CRPF havildar, allegedly attacked his 36-year-old wife Manisha with a sharp-edged weapon at their residence in Bahu Akbarpur village on Friday evening.
Despite suffering severe neck injuries, Manisha managed to reach her neighbours for help but died while being taken to hospital.
The victim's brother, Narender, claimed that Sombir had been honoured on August 15 for killing four militants in Manipur. However, neither the CRPF nor the local police have independently confirmed the claim.
According to Narender, Sombir returned home on October 21 without informing his wife, intending to surprise her. He allegedly hid in a village street before Manisha spotted him and asked their daughter to call him home.
Narender alleged that Sombir threatened to kill Manisha shortly before the attack.
"Open the door. I will kill you today," Narender quoted Sombir as saying during a telephone conversation on Friday evening.
He said he had called his sister, but the phone was answered by his niece Anisha. He claimed he could hear Sombir threatening Manisha in the background while she had locked the door.
Alarmed by the exchange, Narender rushed to the village but found the house locked. He subsequently learnt that Manisha had been taken to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak, where he was informed of her death.
Manisha, a resident of Ismailpur village before her marriage, had married Sombir in 2009. The couple had two daughters, Anisha, 16, and Chaksu, around 14.
Her brother alleged that Manisha had faced prolonged harassment from her husband and in-laws because she had not given birth to a son.
He claimed that her mother-in-law, Kamlesh, frequently taunted her and talked about arranging a second marriage for Sombir. Disputes involving Kamlesh and Sombir's younger brother Monu had allegedly forced Manisha to spend nearly a year at her parental home.
She later returned after her husband and his family promised that she would no longer be harassed, Narender said.
However, he alleged that the harassment continued, prompting Manisha to live separately with her daughters in rented accommodation. Another house was being constructed for her in the village.
Narender named Sombir, Kamlesh and Monu in his police complaint, demanding action against those responsible for his sister's death.
Bahu Akbarpur police station in-charge Jasbir said police reached the scene after receiving information about the killing and called a forensic science laboratory team to collect evidence.
"The accused husband, Sombir, is being searched for, and further investigation is underway," Jasbir said.
Police conducted the post-mortem examination today and registered a murder case against Sombir.
Investigators are examining the allegations of domestic harassment and the circumstances surrounding the attack, while efforts continue to arrest the accused.
