Haryana: Gurugram Police arrests 26 cybercrime accused in week-long crackdown

Panchkula, Sep 15 (UNI) Cyber crime teams of Gurugram Police arrested 26 alleged cyber fraudsters in a week, busting suspected involvement in scams ranging from investment and trading fraud to digital arrest, sextortion and social media fraud, a police official said on Tuesday.
The arrests were made by teams of Gurugram Police's Cyber Crime Police stations between September 7 and 13, as part of a continued drive against cyber fraudsters operating across different states, with police recovering six mobile phones, four SIM cards and a laptop from the accused, the official said.
According to the police, the accused were allegedly involved in various types of cyber fraud, including investment fraud, "digital arrest" scams, credit card fraud, social media fraud, APK file fraud, fake Instagram IDs, OLX fraud, trading fraud, Instagram hacking, sextortion, ticket-booking fraud and job fraud.
The police said six mobile phones, four SIM cards and one laptop were recovered from the arrested accused.
The crackdown is being conducted under the guidance of Assistant Commissioner of Police, Cyber Crime, Gurugram, Gaurav Phogat, the official said.
Gurugram Police has appealed to people not to trust calls, WhatsApp messages or social media communications from unknown persons and to exercise caution before clicking on links or installing applications related to investment, trading or online tasks.
The police also warned people against fraudsters posing as officials of the CBI, police, NCB or other government agencies and threatening victims with "digital arrest".
People have been advised to immediately report suspected cyber fraud on the National Cyber Crime Helpline Number "1930", the official said.
Moreover, the Gurugram Police said its cybercrime teams are carrying out extensive technical investigations to identify people involved in cyber fraud and initiate strict legal action against them.
