Haryana Minister directs agencies to ensure timely procurement, payments to farmers

Beri, Oct 24 (UNI) Haryana Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana on Saturday directed procurement agencies to ensure that farmers receive the prescribed price for their produce without unnecessary delays, stressing that timely procurement, prompt lifting and hassle-free payments must remain the top priorities at grain markets.
During a visit to the Beri grain market in Jhajjar district, the minister reviewed paddy and bajra procurement arrangements, interacted with farmers and commission agents, and directed officials to address farmers' grievances on priority.
“Farmers should not face any difficulty in selling their produce. The procurement process must be transparent, smooth and completed within the stipulated time,” Rana said.
He directed officials to ensure that farmers arriving at mandis with their produce were not inconvenienced by delays in procurement, transportation or lifting of purchased grain.
The minister said the timely lifting of procured crops was essential to prevent congestion in market yards and ensure that other farmers had adequate space to unload and sell their produce.
He instructed procurement agencies to maintain close coordination and ensure that arrangements for crop purchase, lifting, storage and payments functioned smoothly throughout the procurement season.
Rana said protecting farmers' interests and ensuring the prescribed price for their crops remained a priority of the Centre and the Haryana Government.
During a review meeting at the Market Committee office, he directed officials to regularly monitor procurement operations and take immediate corrective steps wherever farmers encountered difficulties.
The minister also instructed the authorities to ensure adequate drinking water, electricity, shaded waiting areas, toilets and cleanliness at the Beri grain market.
He called for proper arrangements at the Atal Canteen so that farmers visiting the mandi could access essential facilities without inconvenience.
Similar directions were issued for the Majra procurement centre, where officials were asked to ensure that farmers had access to basic amenities and suitable arrangements for selling their produce.
Meanwhile, Commission Agents' Association president Dalbir Singh raised demands for the construction of cement-concrete roads, auction platforms and improvements to other market infrastructure.
Rana assured that these demands would be examined and addressed in accordance with the prescribed rules, and directed officials to initiate necessary action to improve facilities for farmers and commission agents.
The minister reiterated that procurement agencies and district officials must ensure that farmers could bring, unload and sell their crops without avoidable inconvenience, while maintaining smooth procurement and payment arrangements.
