Haryana offers late-fee relief for groundwater extraction regularisation until Nov 30

Panchkula, Oct 23 (UNI) The Haryana Water Resources (Conservation, Regulation and Management) Authority (HWRA) has decided to provide special relief in late fees until November 30, to facilitate the regularisation of groundwater extraction by industrial, infrastructure and mining projects in the state.
According to a government official, the decision aims to encourage compliance with groundwater regulations and facilitate project proponents in obtaining the requisite permissions.
Constituted under the Haryana Water Resources (Conservation, Regulation and Management) Authority Act, 2020, the authority regulates the use of groundwater and surface water in Haryana.
Under the applicable guidelines, industries, infrastructure projects, and mining units that extract groundwater are required to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the authority, subject to applicable exemptions.
The official said the special relaxation in late fees would remain available until November 30. From December 1, late fees would be charged in accordance with the authority’s existing guidelines.
Groundwater users not covered under the exempted categories have been directed to apply for the requisite NOC via the authority’s official website at https://hwra.org.in.
Project proponents who extract groundwater without the requisite permission or violate applicable regulations will face legal action under the relevant provisions, the official said.
