Haryana police report Rs 25.65 crore fuel savings from digital summons

Panchkula, Oct 29 (UNI) Haryana Police has estimated fuel savings of Rs 25.65 crore over six months from electronic summons, citing an independent study assessing digital procedures introduced under the three new criminal laws.
The e-Summon system saved an estimated 2,700,466 litres of fuel and 3,240 reams of paper during the period, police said in a statement on Thursday. About 78.13 per cent of summonses in the state are being received electronically.
Separately, court hearings conducted via video conferencing saved an estimated 122,400 litres of fuel, worth Rs 1.16 crore, over seven months. Remote appearances by police personnel also resulted in estimated travel allowance savings of Rs 1.10 crore, the statement said.
Director General of Police Ajay Singhal said technology, scientific evidence and better coordination with courts were central to improving investigations and the delivery of justice.
“Our objective is to ensure timely, impartial and effective justice for every citizen and further strengthen public confidence in the police system,” he said.
Haryana has established 2,145 video-conferencing cubicles across police stations, forensic laboratories, courts, jails and banks. Approximately 70 per cent of police personnel are appearing before courts through video conferencing, according to the statement.
Police said forensic teams were visiting all crime scenes involving offences punishable with imprisonment of seven years or more. It said 99.2 per cent of forensic examination recordings were being made through the e-Sakshya application.
To expand scientific investigation capacity, the sanctioned strength of forensic laboratories has increased from 351 to 1,044 posts, while working personnel have risen from 167 to 470. Recruitment against 563 posts is underway.
At least one mobile forensic van is operational in every district, with two deployed in larger districts. Administrative approval has also been granted for 17 additional mobile forensic science units.
Police said district superintendents were reviewing Zero FIRs weekly, with these ordinarily being converted into regular FIRs within 48 hours. Other citizen services include electronic FIRs for vehicle theft and SMS updates at every stage of an investigation.
The state claimed nearly 100 per cent compliance with prescribed implementation targets under the three criminal laws, which took effect on July 1, 2024. It also said Haryana ranked first on the national implementation dashboard in September 2026.
