Hayana: Bhiwani Police warn against fake challans, fraudulent government notices

Bhiwani, Oct 11 (UNI) Bhiwani Police have warned residents against cyber fraud involving fake traffic challans and government notices, urging them to verify messages through official channels before making payments or sharing personal and banking details.
As part of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, the police are conducting awareness programmes under the theme “STOP–THINK–TAKE ACTION” in schools, colleges, villages and public places.
A team from the Cyber Crime Police Station, led by Vishnu Kumar, held an awareness programme at Kaluwas village, explaining how fraudsters impersonate government departments, traffic police and courts to threaten people with penalties or legal action and trick them into clicking fraudulent links.
Police said such messages, sent through SMS, WhatsApp or email, may direct recipients to fake payment portals designed to steal money, banking credentials, OTPs and UPI PINs. Residents were advised not to download suspicious applications or act on threats of immediate payment, vehicle seizure or arrest without verification.
Bhiwani Superintendent of Police Mayank Mishra urged citizens to check challans and notices through the concerned department’s official portal and never share confidential banking details with unknown persons.
Victims of cyber fraud should immediately call the national cybercrime helpline 1930 and report the incident through the official cybercrime reporting portal, police said.
