Himachal: Police gets nod to freeze drug traffickers’ assets worth Rs 74.12 Lakh

Dharamshala, Oct 17 (UNI) The competent authority in New Delhi has confirmed the freezing of assets worth around Rs 74.12 lakh linked to an accused in an alleged drug-related case in Himachal Pradesh’s Nurpur police district, police said today.
A police spokesperson said the action was taken under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act as part of the state government’s intensified campaign against drug trafficking, following the directions of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
The assets include a two-storey residential-cum-commercial building housing seven shops in Labh village of Jawali tehsil, valued at around Rs 68.99 lakh, and a tractor purchased in 2019 for approximately Rs 5.13 lakh.
The spokesperson said the accused failed to provide sufficient documentary evidence, including income tax returns and bank statements, to substantiate the source of funds used to purchase the tractor in 2019. The tax returns submitted for subsequent financial years were also deemed insufficient.
He said the Nurpur police had so far secured confirmation for the freezing of assets worth approximately Rs 30.70 crore under its campaign against drug trafficking.
The strategy focuses not only on drug seizures and arrests but also on tracing illicit wealth and taking legal action against properties allegedly linked to the drug trade, he added.
The spokesperson appealed to the public to share information about drug trafficking, illegal narcotics sales and suspicious assets believed to have been acquired through such activities, saying public cooperation was vital to achieving a drug-free society. UNI AR SS
